I went out to Springmount Garden Centre, on the Ballycanew Road ,Gorey last week for my weekly family coffee session but arrived early and had some time to spare so I headed around the shop and discovered for the first time the beautiful upstairs Aladdin’s cave of garden furniture.
I was truly bewildered at the staggering display of barbecues and other garden and outdoor related paraphernalia on sale therein.
I just loved the decorative bronze coloured globe heater. This was on display next to the poultry heater and grill basket.
There was also a very nice hanging mini grill sitting next to a fireball and log store.
I was quite pleased when I saw a barbecue like my own ageing model. I moved along and saw firepits and fire baskets for use with untreated wood, Stonegate 3 legged roasters and dual fuels models. I was just blown away by the range and quality of the garden equipment on display and the thought struck me that I might upgrade my outdoor cooking facilities.
Then I moved on to view the rattan effect Obelisks, The Topiary Twirls, The decorative Peacock Glass tables, a huge array of cushions, fish decorations, wave lanterns. I just loved them all while Springmount were also prepared to protect us against flies with Citronella Jars that repel them on sale.
I was just flabbergasted by this upstairs room that I had discovered and so I strayed downstairs to view the outside garden mirrors which should be in any garden.
I now had 15 minutes before my rendezvous in the green house café, so I strolled around the ground floor where `I viewed garden weaponry of every shape size and colour, seeds for every garden and season, sprays, fertilisers, garden gloves, mats, books, cards and much more,
It was now time to stroll outside and view the plant section. They have what must be the greatest most organised garden centre in Ireland with a huge range of plants, trees and shrubs for all seasons for sale. They were so clearly displayed with sections on plants for looking good, fragrant blossoms, ground cover plants and ones for coastal areas, heavy soil, for easy care, best sellers and sensory, the list goes on. You could spend all day looking around this super place with the courteous well informed pleasant staff ever present to answer your queries. I was totally blown away by the huge range of hydrangeas on display, from mopheads to lace cap while my own favourite, Annabelle was putting on a great floral showy performance.
As I was heading for the garden hose section my coffee mates arrived and it was cappuccino and Americano time in the very pleasant greenhouse café where service is always pleasant and excellent fare served. I just love the leafy designs on the head of my favourite cappuccino while their home made freshly baked scones are delicious.
This is not just a garden centre. It is an institution which will next year be celebrating 50 years of excellent service to the people of Gorey and North Wexford where the password always is courtesy, professionalism and excellence.
