Good friends are special and rare
If you have some you are lucky
We must treat them with respect and kindness
They are genuine and real
Today I look at young people
They are all very active on social media
Using tic toc and messenger
Facebook and facetime
They count their friends
Not in tens but in thousands
They have likes and followers
Thumbs up, exchanging photos
Some very personal and intimate
Some feel very threatened and insecure
But peer pressure takes over
So they stay active online
To keep totting up friends
But are these real people
Can they be like personal friends
Who are there to support us
In times of need, in times of
Personal stress, tragedy, sickness and bereavement
Can these online friends be genuine
Will they be able to give the helping hand
The hug when you are feeling low
Or the listening ear when you need it
True friends are a treasured species
Online friends cannot and will not
Be able to replace the physical friend
Cherish close friends if you have them
Value them and really appreciate them
Go for meals and coffee with them
Meet up or go to a show or cinema together
In today’s reality you can have hundreds of friends
That you will most likely never meet
They will comment, like and share
There is an old saying which goes
New friends are like silver
Old friends are like gold
Cherish them,they are pure gold.
